Hotels in Apo Island

For all the vacationists and visitors, temporary residential is a must. After a long day of island tripping, of course you deserve a place to take a rest. The Apo Island offers two hotels where you can stay overnight. These two hotels are the Apo Island Beach resort and the Liberty's Lodge.

One thing to remember is that the Apo Island does not have an electricity whole day long. They switch off the power at night, this goes for both hotels but Apo Island Beach Resort has their own generator and they run it three hours later than the village generator which Liberty's Lodge is hooked in to.

The two hotels offers diving, Apo Island is consistently rated as one of the top ten diving sites in the world so of course you will have plenty of opportunities to dive here.

 

• Apo Island Beach Resort

The first thing you will notice upon approaching the island is this two story building with a distinct Filipino design. A touch of modern and classic style is what you will noticed. This particular resort was formerly known as the Kan-Upe Cove Resort.

The Apo Island Beach Resort claims one-and-a-half hectares of cunspoilt coral sand. The resort is built on a cove facing two big rock formations on each side of the "U" shaped cove. Because the islands terrain is rather rugged, one has to scramble over some boulders to be able to reach the resort. But despite this inconvenience, the Apo Island Beach Resort still gains a plus in its fantastic and ideal location.

This was styled and decorated in an altogether Filipino architecture and design using only bamboo, wood and concrete for its materials, the Apo Island Beach Resort boasts of a commanding view of the private beachfront and of the sea from its large airy windows in the second level rooms.

It has a total of eight rooms including the honeymoon suite accommodation – all overlooking the ocean. The amenities are relatively basic, having only electric fans as a source of ventilation and comfort.

For it has its own private beach, the main activity could be snorkeling in the premises, if not diving, sunbathing freely, enjoying a book in one of the lounging chairs, hiking or simply walking along the shore to feel the fine Apo sand beneath your feet and having a cold drinks in your hand while watching the outriggers go by.

A trip to Apo Island will not be complete without spending a night or two at the Apo Island Beach Resort because this is the only way to capture the charm that is truly unique to Apo Island.

This particular restaurant is an open air bar and restaurant that serves Filipino food specializing in seafood fresh from the day’s catch. This is one of the two restos that you can find here in the island.

 

 

• Liberty Lodge

Another beach resort in the Apo Island is the Liberty Lodge. It is a unique structure whose central portion is built into a rock wall, giving you the impression of being actually carved into it but it was not.

This lodge has nine rooms, all with electric fans and decorated in typical Filipino fashion. Large windows abound in the whole building to address ventilation issues as air conditioning is virtually unheard of in the island.

Bamboo and wood make up for much of the materials used, the furniture is also made of comfortable bamboo designs made by local craftsmen. The room rates there depends upon the type of accommodation.

You can also found here in the Liberty Lodge is Paul’s Diving, a specialty dive shop who offer diving services as well as rent out equipment and gear. There is also Liberty’s Restaurant, a good design dining space that has a complete view of the beach. Some of its specialties are Filipino dishes mixed with selected international cuisine. Fish, being abundant and fresh all year round, is the highlight of the menu. The restaurant chef will cook it any way you want to have it.

The atmosphere and ambiance of Liberty’s Lodge is just hard to resist as it allows every guest to capture and truly enjoy the magic of island living, relying only on the barest of essentials.

The island itself is devoid of electricity of 8 hours from 10pm - 6pm, so a stand by generator is always at hand to supply power to the hotel and restaurant. Being a remote island has presented difficulties but measures have been implemented to overcome such problem.

A stay at the Liberty Lodge is just a complement to the great diving at the Apo Island Marine Sanctuary where every diver claims witness to the fantastic underwater world. The main activity is always scuba diving and snorkelling under the reefs. A walk on the beach, a nap on a swaying hammock, and a meal taken under the island sunset are some of the many ways of feeling the total sense of the vacation here at the unique Apo Island.
